Greenwich Village

Greenwich Village

Misfits and beatniks use to
Pace the streets of Greenwich Village
Free spirits and the like splashed the wares
On concrete , the painters with diverse approaches

Wild eyes and outfits ,were trying to contact
The passerby , drawing the portrait in the matter of the minute
Nirvana's smoke perfumed grounds , so normal site it was
Exotic mix of ethnic joints , offered food for every taste

Oh Greenwich Village how i use to wander
Bohemian amongst oddballs on sidewalks
Licking gelato after tasting Cuban spicy cooking
Inhaling jazzy notes from the proliferation of the music clubs

How everything is changed
No more beatniks or dropout flower children
The mostly students and the movie stars
Upscale chains ate out little stores, selling the hard to find
And prices not for the starving painters and the poets
Some weirdos in the Washington square park
Jazz club around too , not so many as before
Yes it changed a lot ,but in the way it stay the same
